Hi Guys!

I’m going to try out a different topic!

So I wanted to try out this… I am going to look up on Google “random questions to ask yourself when bored”. Alright well let’s get started!

~what is my favorite app? hmmmm… maybe face time

~what is my favorite Netflix show? definitely gonna say free rein

~where is the last place on Earth that I would ever move to? somewhere cold. I hate the cold.

Hi guys! Check out my latest post!

Law enforcement has stepped up its fight on human traffickers. Seeing one bust after another is smacking us in the face as to the enormity of the problem. Schools are even now teaching students how to not become one of these statistics. These are the times that we went in now. You can’t just go to the mall and expect all to be well, for we know that to not be true. Peoples lives are at stake. I have so many questions. Was this an issue when my parents were kids: well lets just put it simply: NO. How do we shut this down? Can we even do that? Thanks to the Epstein case, it is obvious that trafficking has some major benefactors. Money talks. This is what makes me think that law enforcement will have a heavy load to carry and I just can not see this issue going away. That does NOT mean that we should just “throw in the towel” or so to speak. We need to save as many people as we can. I believe that it is an uphill battle that we are fighting right now. But it is definitely a cause worth fighting for!

Healthcare networks launch anti-human trafficking training — Sisters of Notre Dame de Namur Justice, Peace and Integrity of Creation

Hi again! Check this out:

Washington D.C., – A new partnership is aiming to expand training for medical professionals on how to identify and assist victims of human trafficking.

Global Strategic Operatives for the Eradication of Human Trafficking (Global Strategic Operatives) announced a new collaboration and partnership with the Selah Way Foundation, a global network of leading anti-sexual exploitation service providers at a press conference on Thursday, Jan. 30 in Washington, D.C.

Deb O’Hara-Rusckowski, one of the co-founders of Global Strategic Operatives, told CNA that the organization decided to go into the medical field because studies have shown that about 88% of victims of human trafficking seek medical treatment at some point while they are being trafficked.

As a member of the Order of Malta, a lay Catholic religious order, O’Hara-Rusckowski said she considers her work in combating human trafficking to be an ideal way to live out the three charisms of the order: caring for the sick, caring for the poor, and defending the faith.

“My whole life right now is living out my faith,” she said. “I can’t think of any better way of taking those charisms and really combining them to live out my faith.”

A pilot program has already begun at six hospital systems located around the country–Baptist Health in Florida, Advocate Aurora Health in Illinois, Hackensack Meridian Health in New Jersey, Harris Health System in Texas, Baylor College of Medicine in Texas, RWJ Barnabas Health in New Jersey, and Northwell Health in New York. These locations were chosen due to higher-than-average rates of human trafficking in their areas.

Staff members at hospitals in these healthcare systems have been trained to spot signs that a person may be a victim of human trafficking.

Representatives from each of the six hospital systems, Homeland Security Investigations (a branch of the U.S. Department of Homeland Security), as well as Congressmen Chris Smith (R-NJ) and Ross Spano (R-FL), spoke at the press conference in praise of Global Strategic Operatives.

Karen Stanford, the manager of the emergency department at Advocate Lutheran General Hospital in Park Ridge, IL, told CNA that the reality of human trafficking was brought home to her after her daughter was approached by a potential trafficker two years ago. Her hospital is part of the Advocate Aurora Health system.

“We live in a gated community, and so it was a bit of a shock,” she said. The experience prompted her to reach out to Paula Besler, vice president of Selah Freedom, looking to bring some sort of educational program to Lutheran General to better identify survivors of human trafficking.

“Then we had this awesome opportunity to partner with CommonSpirit Health, who brought some of their tools forward. And then we were able to fly in survivors to provide us with education and disbanding some of the [misconceptions] that were barriers to identifying,” said Stanford.

CommonSpirit Health is a Catholic health system that received a grant in 2019 to help combat human trafficking. It partners with Global Strategic Operatives.

As a healthcare professional, Stanford told CNA that there is a tendency to be “non-judgemental,” which has resulted in some red flags going unnoticed.

“If somebody comes in [to the emergency room] who we are suspecting is using drugs or prostituting, we’re oftentimes thinking that it is a choice, when the reality is, and what we’ve learned so very much around here, is that’s not necessarily true. It’s because they’re being forced into it,” said Stanford.

Since the training was put in place at her hospital, Stanford said that there have been increased identifications of people who were trafficked, and next month, the entire health system will launch a task force to further expand the program to 25 additional sites.

“I’m really excited to help that move forward,” said Stanford. “Now that there’s this recognition, there’s a great amount of momentum in emergency medicine to start the education and planning.”

Listing the 15 top US cities for human trafficking in 2018 was our duty and obligation, not only as help and possible guidance for potential victims, but also our way of overthrowing of prejudice.

According to UNODC (United Nation Office on Drugs and Crime), human trafficking is described as the recruitment, transportation, transfer, harboring or receipt of persons. Trafficking includes humiliating, closing, abusing, fraud and harming of a possible victim. That is the reason why many organizations named this criminal act as modern slavery.

Every year thousands of people become victims of human trafficking all around the world. However, in spite of common beliefs, no country is excused from that, including those considered as the most developed. Believing that human trafficking is a problem only in poor the third-world countries is one of the myths among many of them, as site Mashable said. Yes, human trafficking is happening right now and just in front of our eyes!

Honestly, if we take in mind top cities for human trafficking 2017 that are listed in our list top 15 cities with highest human trafficking in the world, there are cities which are actually located in developing countries mostly. However, if we look at the US, the numbers show that this problem has not avoided the US either, as well as the most developed cities in the US. Our concern that the issue is growing is proved by numerous cases of human trafficking across the country. When we listed the worst states for human trafficking 2017 in our article 12 Top States for Human Trafficking in 2018, we bore in mind top states for human trafficking 2017 and predicted the most affected states for this year.

While researching this topic and reading reports from the past couple of years we also analyzed the highest human trafficking states 2016. What we found is not only that human trafficking increased in 2016, but that one of the states named as the worst is California. Being a state with multiple international borders, but also a state famous for its culturally diverse cities, California is among the most popular states for immigrants, which are, unfortunately, vulnerable group. Researching top human trafficking cities in California, we found that this is one of the states with the highest number of cities with human trafficking in the country. Four cities from California are pretty high on our list of top US cities for human trafficking, as well.

It is obvious that with this list we can only predict potential grow of a number of victims in named cities in 2018, and that’s why, for our calculations, we considered human trafficking statistics from the last few years. The most reliable and countable results gave us Polaris organization. They have precisely expressed lists of the number of calls from human trafficking victims as well as cases that are investigated and processed in the US cities. Also, they went one step ahead and made two additional lists based on the same parameters, however, this time the city rankings are made according to the “numbers per capita.” After all, cities with the higher number of citizens obviously have higher results. So, we considered a total of four lists. Finally, we made our list by overlapping them. The exact position of a city on our list is calculated according to the places that city occupies in these lists. We are sure that we made the closest prediction when it comes to the 15 top US cities for human trafficking 2018. Bear in mind all we said above and stay safe!

15. Orlando, Florida

Although Orlando has a low number of calls and cases in 2017, it is among cities with the highest numbers of victims per capita. As a matter of fact, newspapers shared the news that human trafficking is on the rise in this state, especially among young adult and older teenagers, recalling on numerous cases of kidnapped teenagers last year. Together with human trafficking comes drug abuse, which is actually closely linked to exploitation.
